Zdendazuma – 1980’s Atari 8-bit Platforming classic of Montezuma with new levels!

Even more great retro gaming news for this week, as we have just learnt that Zdenda Zubr, has released what looks to be an Atari XL/XE rom hack of ‘Montezuma’s Revenge’ called ‘Zdendazuma’ for the SillyVenture 2023 competition : A version of the game which is spread over 7 data disks and a massive 320 rooms to play through! To coincide with this news story, Saberman has done a number of videos of the game, with one of them being shown below.

Here is what the creator says about the game disks “Ever since the day (sometime in the early 80’s) when I first saw Montezuma’s Revenge, I wanted to program this game myself, with my rooms. That came true for me in my 50s. I don’t know a more beautiful and more typical 8-bit game. I would also like to point out that there are about 110 rooms in the original Montezuma – but many rooms are used 8 times – while I have 40 rooms, but EVERY ONE IS DIFFERENT – so I have more rooms than the original! And if I include the rooms on the 7 data discs, which of course are all also unique, my son and I created a total of 8×40=320 rooms!”
