CoinOps Self Boot PC Arcade Build – Forgotten Worlds Atarashii Unix – Download – Burn – Boot & Play!

Loving this CoinOps Forgotten Worlds Artarashii Unix build – download, extract, write, boot and play – it really is that easy! “Unix” a word that scares your average retro gamer – but fear not, you have been using it all along (without knowing it!)  – the latest Batocera self booting builds being no exception! In this awesome fully loaded (just over 100gb) build AndyBurn (king of the CoinOps porting!) – presents this public release (v1).

FROM THE AUTHOR

First, if you get stuck, send me a pm on the CoinOPS Discord channel!
Please provide feedback – development is not possible without it

None of this would be possible without the undying efforts of BritneysPairs, PixelFreak, Phulshof,MONKOFTHEFUNK!!,
Fnord, InigoMontoya, Caronte, Spyroteknik, Grizz Trismegistus, MadMarty and many, many others in the CoinOPS project.

YMMV, but please remember this is all free, and written by enthusiasts for the love of the old arcade

Cheers,

andyburn

There are new features in this release so please make sure to read below

Hint – Use a very good quality USB3.0/3.1 USB stick, or preferably a SSD/NVME.
——————————————————————————
I recommend Sandisk Ultra or Pro, Supersonic Rage Elite/Prime (not XT!), and SAMSUNG BAR Plus.
The faster the better!
Also, make sure the USB port you are using has sufficient power for the device you are using!!

A swapfile option is available for HDD/SSD/NVME in the advanced settings.

First BOOT
———-
The image will AUTO-EXPAND the partition on first boot to fill the disk.
You will see notification on the screen before it reboots.

When it reboots it is recommended to run the sound setup using pavucontrol from a terminal

SETUP
—–
This build is based upon Arch Linux and all that entails.
The Desktop Enviroment is Cinammon, with some extras added eg Chrome
You can add remove software at will with yay or pacman/pacaur, but if you break it, you’re on your own!

Wifi is supported OOB along with ssh.

Username is arcade, password is 1234

There is now an auto GPU script will detect and set the right AV driver for CoinOPS.
Nvidia, Intel and amdgpu drivers are installed

You can also add a SWAP file, and restore defaults.

Using Controllers
—————–
You can add bluetooth controllers by yourself in the Desktop (Power and Boot Options)
If you have a bluetooth dongle or its built in, you can enable and pair your controllers.

**Once connected be sure to “Trust” the controller so it auto connects.**

Xbox Series X/S may require a confirm in the notification bar bottom right screen.
Dongle build quality varies at best, so there are no guarantees.

For vector games you may need to run antimicro to set up your joystick/gamepad
Ask if you get stuck. See more below in advanced settings.

Xinput controllers should work OOTB, and with a lot of dinput ones.
If you fins a controller that doesnt work, let me know.

Updates will happen

Music
—–

Can add your own mp3 to /home/arcade/CoinOPS/music
There is a shortcut on the desktop.

Keybindings can be changed in /home/arcade/.xbindkeysrc
Use xev to get key codes.

Advanced Settings
—————–

There are six main options:

1.  Power and Boot Options – Self explanatory.

2.  Controls Menus

If you have any of the following then you are in luck!
Some will pair as Xinput or Dinput.
If one doesnt work , try the other!
Some tinkering may be required.

8bitdo Lite
8bitdo SN30 Pro (Dinput)
PS5
PS4
SeriesXS

Xbox One v1
Xbox One rev1
Atari Flight Stick
Xin Mo
TankStick (Dinput)
Pacto2000
Hyperkin Genesis six button

Some may not pair depending on your luck, but should work when wired.

If only one or no controllers are installed, KB profiles for mame are used as needed.

– Configure AAE Controllers – required for vector games….

They can be configured directly by using this option.
It will provide a graphical app for this purpose.

AAE (great vector graphics!) is emulated under Wine.
It had no native joystick control, so antimicrox is used to configure:
– Starwars, need to invert your y-axis, all buttons fire!!
– Vector – asteroids, battlezone etc
These files are located in CoinOPS/emulators/AAE/profiles/sdlcontroller

3.  Display Options
– Bezels – Full Screen, Standard, or Modern.

– Glass Effects – Choose how you want the mame screens to look here
– Scanlines can be disabled, normal or blooming

6. Themes 2nd Screen Marquee
