Original Story : Like almost any piece of consumer technology that goes on to become a best-seller, the SNES underwent a series of changes during its production cycle, the most obvious of which was the console’s video chip setup. Launch variants of the Super Famicom and SNES featured two video chips, and for some reason, these systems output a somewhat blurry signal. Nintendo revised the console with a single video chip in 1995, hence the birth of ‘1CHIP’ and ‘2CHIP’ designations.
