SPACE INVADERS – by Eugenio Angueira

In 1978, Taito/Midway took the arcades by storm with their release of a game called Space Invaders. The game was designed by Tomohiro Nishikado, who spent a year developing the game itself as well as the hardware necessary to make the game possible. His concept gave the players the ability to fire a laser into moving enemies, making this the first fixed shooter that became one of the most recognized and influential video games ever.

This makes the aliens move closer to the player’s cannon, making it necessary to eliminate all of them before they reach the ground. Should even one alien make it to the ground, the game ends regardless of how many lives the player may have left. There are five rows of eleven aliens to deal with (55 aliens). As the player shoots the aliens and fewer of them are on the screen, their speed increases…
