Ever since the first flipper was placed on a playfield back in 1947, pinball has been a great way for players to come together, have some fun, and socialize over accessible games. Over the past century or so, the popularity of pinball has spiked and receded in wild fashion, and the entire industry has almost crashed at least a handful of times. Although the pinball scene has been relatively quiet since the early 2000s, the last few years have seen an explosion of player interest, similar to the growing nostalgia for the golden age of arcades. Thanks to the emergence of “barcades” in the 2010s and a surge of popularity post-pandemic, pinball machines have been popping up far more frequently, and players seem more than happy to plop down a few quarters. In almost every way, pinball is hotter now than it has been in decades, and the summer of 2024 has been a glorious celebration of the return of the silver ball..
