Have you played these notoriously terrible old school gaming titles?

For large populations of gamers out there, retro consoles and the games they house are exceptional. However, not every title we’ve been exposed to has been memorable for all the right reasons. In fact, there have been some notoriously terrible games that have hit the shelves in times gone by, many of which are still being discussed today.

Overall, there is clearly still an appetite for retro gaming. Of course, people are still exploring modern-day co-op masterpieces like Split Fiction and DraftKings slots with a food theme like Fred’s Food Truck, but many gamers are also still attracted to the classics. Alongside these evident favorites is a wide selection of duds, though. After all, developers don’t always get it right, and we have most definitely witnessed that on numerous occasions in the past.

With all that in mind, below we take a brief look at some shockingly bad old-school gaming titles from over the years. Have you played them before?

Perfect Dark Zero

When the Xbox 360 was a must-have console, titles like Perfect Dark Zero promised to serve up plenty of gaming-related excitement. When it eventually hit the shelves, though, gamers were left feeling a little disappointed. From the game’s poor character designs and clunky mechanics, to its terrible graphics and weak storyline, Perfect Dark Zero was most definitely viewed as a massive letdown.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Somewhat understandably, given the popularity of the franchise back in the day, people were thrilled by the release of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. In the end, though, this NES product failed spectacularly and didn’t rival the alluring alternative that was seen in arcades around the world. The home console version had poor graphics and it felt rushed.

Superman 64

The N64 is a beloved console thanks to a plethora of iconic releases, but there were also some absolute shockers. A title that has this unwanted tag is most definitely Superman 64, a release that received poor reviews and angered many lovers of the Superman franchise. Not only did it become tiresome flying through a seemingly never-ending selection of rings, but the game’s controls were painfully unresponsive, and multiplayer modes were riddled with issues. Overall, Superman 64 was a disaster.

Kingdom Hearts 2

If you’ve worked your way through the PS2’s catalogue of iconic releases, then you might’ve come across Kingdom Hearts 2 before. While some players didn’t mind it, other gamers were perplexed at just how bad it was. Compared to the first game, which was deemed a success overall, the second instalment didn’t have many redeeming qualities. In fact, it was incredibly boring to play and it brought nothing new to the table.

E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial

We couldn’t leave E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial off the list, could we? Sure, some people who adored the movie warmed to the game, but it didn’t deliver the same type of excitement as Steven Spielberg’s 1982 classic did. Clearly nothing more than a cash grab looking to capitalize on the success of the movie, consumers everywhere rushed to snap the game up, only to feel immediately upset by notable issues like its poor graphics, the game’s unclear objectives, and so much more. Overall, E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial was horrendous.

The Lion King

The Lion King movie will never be forgotten, given the impact it’s had on childhoods, but the game with the same name is probably worth avoiding. Playable on the SEGA Genesis and the SNES, it was filled with poor inclusions and lazy features. The title’s game design is where it really faltered, though, with gamers everywhere struggling to see past the first level.
