First of all, a big thank you to everyone who has played Overthrown during Game Preview! Today, I’m excited to share that Overthrown is officially in 1.0 tomorrow!
It’s been one incredible journey since we launched our game into Xbox Game Preview over a year ago. During the preview phase, we introduced a huge range of new features, improvements, and additions – many inspired directly by our amazing community, so if you’re one of those awesome people who played our game and left us feedback, a huge, huge thank you goes your way. Before we dive into what’s new, let me take a moment to tell you what Overthrown is all about, and how the game has evolved over the past 14 months.
What is Overthrown?
Overthrown is a chaotic city-builder designed for one to six players. You play as a Monarch, tasked with building and managing your kingdom, farming the land, gathering resources, and defending your citizens from outlaws and creatures. Your soul-stealing crown grants you magical superpowers. Thanks to it, you’ll be able to hurl trees, buildings, and monsters into the horizon, sprint with supersonic-like speed across rivers and lakes, and fight with unmatched strength.
We wanted to build Overthrown around the idea of freedom, fun, and glorious chaos. But it’s not all destruction; management is just as important as the shenanigans. Keeping your people fed and happy is just as important. Neglect them and their needs, and they may abandon you for the outlaws.

What’s New Since Releasing into Game Preview
Since Game Preview, we’ve released three major updates that expanded the world and deepened the gameplay. The Livestock Update introduced the cute and friendly Woolies that can be sheared for wool. In the update we also added:
- Tools such as fire bombs, mortars, and powder kegs (who doesn’t like things that go boom?)
- Nine new buildings, including the Woolie Barn, the Mortar Tower, and the Weaving Mill
- Workers like the Gong Farmer and Cannoneer
- The Canyon map

Next came The Nature Update, which brought in the powerful Mutant Tuskar, the deadly Greathammer weapon, a Lantern to light buildings on fire and more, including:
- Buildings such as the Theatre, Farmstead, and Forager’s Hut
- Decorations to give towns some pizzazz
- Pollution
- Stone infrastructure such as stone fences
- Plants such as the Ember Root needed for crafting

The Coastal Update expanded the game’s watery frontiers. Snappers, amphibious creatures with oversized mouths, now lurk in the waters. Players can construct fishing boats and build new structures like the Fishing Wharf, Fishmonger’s Shop, and Apothecary. The Spear was introduced as a versatile weapon for underwater combat and jousting, and new plants like tall grass and cattails now grow along the shores.
Beyond these updates, we’ve reorganised the research tree, optimised visuals and performance, improved sound design, and fixed countless bugs. The game is smoother, richer, and more chaotic than ever.

What’s New with 1.0 Launch
As you can see, a lot has been added to the game, along with much more polish, and the best part is there is now a major new update to play. With 1.0 launch, Overthrown receives a massive new content drop in the form of the Airship Update!
This update introduces:
- Airships that soar in the sky
- New enemy types
- New plants and the deadly Devourer creature
- Three new maps
- Tutorial hints
- And more!

We hope you’ll enjoy playing the full version of Overthrown as much as we’ve enjoyed creating it. You can play Overthrown right now on Xbox Series X|S and via Game Pass, while the Airship update can be experienced tomorrow. Thank you for being part of this wild ride. We couldn’t have done it without you.

You play as a Monarch in possession of an ancient soul-stealing crown with magical abilities. With its power, establish a kingdom in a perilous wilderness and defend it from mutants and bandits roaming the land.
Build, gather resources, farm the land and more to turn your fledgling realm into a commanding, self-sustaining kingdom. As your fame grows, more will flock to your banner – but so will those who have come to overthrow you, including your friends in up to six-player co-op.
BUILD ANYWHERE
Construct a kingdom from scratch and transform the wilderness into a developed community. Decide which buildings go where, and then manage your citizens to automate everything from there! Don’t like where you placed something? Just pick it up and toss it somewhere else!
LIFT ANYTHING
Throw whole trees at the sawmill to make planks or run through the forest carrying your sawmill to absorb trees along the way! Resource gathering is fun and easy thanks to your crown’s power. Or maybe you have too many enemies around. Pick up monster nests and place them near bandit camps to have them fight each other instead (and obtain free loot!).
FIGHT LIKE AN ANIME PROTAGONIST
Villagers being eaten by mutants? Run across a lake at 100 km/h to rescue them in time! Being shot at by outlaws up in the hills? Spin-attack so fast that you take off like a helicopter and descend on them from the skies!
SURVIVE THE SEASONS
Manage resources and stockpile enough food to last the winter. Guard your farmlands (and peasants) from hungry mutants while waiting for your crops to grow. Keep polluting workshops away or see the land turn barren. Ultimately, keep your people happy or see them desert you for the outlaws.
PLAY WITH YOUR FRIENDS
Overthrown can be played offline in singleplayer, or with a group of up to six friends in online co-op! However – only one can wear the crown.
