In a Gamescom interview with IGN, Saber CCO and former id Software dev Tim Willits said that the company’s upcoming Space Marine follow-up is not using generative AI in its development. The studio has otherwise been embracing the technology, which was at the heart of the recent Rideshare Stimulator controversy. “There is absolutely no generative…
AI in gamedev is about as hot as hot topics get—the tech is polarizing for all sorts of reasons, not the least of which is its environmental impact. The data centers AI relies on come with grave heat and water use concerns at a time when our species’ ecological footprint is already leaning toward the…
You know, I do a lot of prattling about videogame music at this humble website PC Gamer dot com. It’s practically woven into the fabric of my very being at this point—hugely formative for me growing up, and now I carry little bits of it everywhere. I have half a dozen VGM playlists dedicated to…
Like a lot of survival games, Stalker 2 had a long journey from janky larva to playable, easily recommended butterfly. It’s tempting to say that these games ought to just stay under wraps until they’re done and relatively bug-free—but at Gamescom 2026, GSC Game World CEO and head of game direction Ievgen Grygorovych told PC…
If you’ve seen any slasher flick, you know the drill: every youth is horny, and the horny must die. Despite Halloween not being quite as trope-riddled as some of its stabbiest contemporaries, its recent asymmetrical PvP adaptation did include a minigame where two players could slip into a closet and bang each other for buffs—but…
Listen, I’ll be the first to admit that I’m a little biased towards parry-based action games. Sekiro will forever be my favourite FromSoftware game because of just how excellently it captured the back-and-forth feeling of swordplay, not only with its timed deflection mechanic, but its mandate to have you keep the pressure on. But I…
I stand knee deep in a pool of blood. My coworkers, comrades, and friends reduced to food for soulless seagulls. Give a man a fish and he may throw it into the mouth of a weary fisherman, teach a man to fish and he shall bring forth the wrath of a spider crab who knows…
Immersive sims like Deus Ex and Dishonored are among the hardest kinds of games to make, so I always try to be supportive when an indie developer takes on the absurd challenge of creating one. Yet while there have been some good examples in recent years like Skin Deep and New Blood’s early access Thief-like…
Prepare for liftoff in 2027. Sid Meier’s Civilization VII is currently celebrating 35 years of the series and developer Firaxis Games has shared a preview of what’s ahead. In 2027, fans can look forward to Arc of Tomorrow – a free update for all Civ VII players introducing the Atomic Age and extending the game’s…
Your old import games can be teaching aids, too. Indulge me just a moment! Sometime around 2002, I’d just received my latest student loan payment. Naturally, I used some of it to purchase ADV’s release of Neon Genesis Evangelion on DVD. At last I could switch on Japanese audio and subtitles unlike the VHS days,…
