Survival horror title launched alongside the console. Today marks the 30th birthday of NEC and Hudson’s PC-FX system, a Japan-only sequel to the PC Engine / TG-16 which sadly failed to set the gaming world alight. Despite only selling 300,000 units, the PC-FX still has its fans – as is evidenced by the fact that…
“I mentioned I’d worked on Snake Eater, and my three young nephews went wild”. Don’t worry – you’re not suffering from déjà vu. If you feel like you’ve read this before, it’s because we’re republishing some of our favourite features from the past year as part of our Best of 2024 celebrations. If this is…
“This is hard, very difficult for us”. SuperSega boss Alejandro Martín has put his Lamborghini Gallardo up for sale for 99.900 Euros to cover “damages, losses and legal cost” relating to the bungled venture. As you’ll know if you’ve been following the saga, Martín is the project lead on an FPGA-based console built around the…
Thanks to retro company MyArcade. Sega’s Western CEO Shuji Utsumi may have shot down the idea of emulation-based mini-consoles for Saturn and Dreamcast, but that doesn’t mean we’re not getting any Sega-related micro-hardware full stop. Sega would adapt the Moonwalker movie into a series of video games and would later work with Jackson…

But what was in second and third place? Prior to its release on Steam earlier this year, Mossmouth’s UFO 50 had been in development for what seemed like forever – but it was well worth the wait. Presented as 50 games for a fictional video game system, UFO 50 is bursting with ideas. You’ve got…
Sophomore slump. While the PC Engine / TG-16 might not have won the console war, it was a popular enough system to claim second place in Japan (beating the Genesis / Mega Drive in that region) and secure a significant number of fans in the West – so much so that it benefitted from a…
But for me, it was Tuesday. 30 years ago today, Steven E. de Souza’s live-action adaptation of Capcom’s Street Fighter series hit movie theatres in North America and became part of video game folklore. Starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, Raul Julia, Ming-Na Wen and Kylie Minogue, the movie cost $35 million to shoot and earned just…
