We knew from the start, it would be a race. From the moment the first Commodore 64 Ultimate arrived, the community was going to find a way to give their Ultimate the C64C ‘Slimline’ treatment. We knew you wanted it. We were hoping we could beat you to it. But it’s only fitting the community crossed the finish line first.

On April 14th, John Romain made his Starlight Edition a slimline. Today, on April 28th, we’re officially opening pre-orders for the Commodore 64C Ultimate – which we’ve been planning for a long time. Congrats John, that was one race well run!

‘Breadbin’ & ‘Slimline’
The year was 1986. Commodore had just launched the Amiga and Commodore 128. Millions of 64 owners were concerned they’d be left behind. Reports were that Commodore shut down the 64 assembly line multiple times. But each time, the demand demanded the production line be restarted.
Enter the C64C. A Commodore 64 in a sleek, new housing, resembling the more modern Commodore 128. At the time, our friends at Compute!’s Gazette said “A new look for an old friend.”* Also, “The 64 refuses to die.”** Now 44 years since its initial release, we say “confirmed!” to that.

And just like in 1986, the new C64C Ultimate ‘Slimline’ will be identical in performance to our Commodore 64 Ultimate ‘Breadbin’. Same FPGA board. Same USB, HDMI, and WiFi upgrades. Same 99.9% backwards compatibility. Same 10/10 “Masterpiece” IGN rating too, presumably.
