After having a lot of routes and problems spelled out for you in the opening hours of 007 First Light, the fireplace puzzle late into the Carpathian Hotel level comes as a surprise. Not to mention, you’re kind of in the middle of an active chase scene when it comes up, so stopping to try and work out a symbol-based puzzle is not really where your head’s at.
Just in case you still want a chance to work this out for yourself, I’ll start with a quick hint to solving the fireplace puzzle. If you really just want the answer though, scroll on down to the numbered list to get the solution.
Fireplace puzzle hint
Don’t let all those numbers on the dial confuse you. This puzzle is a lot simpler than that—the answer is right in front of you, no arithmetic required. You might initially think you need to go find clues around the room, especially since your mission objective literally says “investigate the dining room”. All you need is that torn piece of paper you initially interacted with.
Hint: Try interacting with the animal buttons on the fireplace and pay attention to how many buttons you’re able to press before it resets. Then go back and look at the mechanical sketch again.
