How to get the Scavenger mount in Gothic Remake

Taming a Scavenger mount in the Gothic Remake is great if you don’t want to walk around the entire map on foot, or retread the same old routes over and over. While you can unlock fast travel in Gothic, it’s limited to camps, so getting a mount speeds things up significantly in terms of travelling between known locales.

You can get the Scavenger mount at any time during the game, but you will need enough money and learning points (detailed below) to actually acquire the mount, some skills, and make the saddle. All that said, here’s how to saddle up a Scavenger to ride.

How to unlock the Scavenger mount in Gothic Remake

You’ll have to complete the Beak Performance quest that you get from Cohsel to the west of the Old Camp to get the Scavenger mount. Before you start, be warned that you’ll need at least 280 ore nuggets and six learning points.

The location is shown in the video above, but basically:

  1. Head out the north gate of the Old Camp and turn left till you hit a path running south
  2. When you reach the crossroads with the sign, turn right on the path descending
  3. Follow the path through the delve, passing Cavalorn’s hut on the right
  4. Ascend out the other side, turning left, to spot Cohsel’s shack just ahead

It’s easy to recognise since it has a Scavenger mount just outside and there’s a tame wolf hanging out. Speak to Cohsel until he mentions riding a Scavenger, and then ask him to teach you three times—keep bugging him until he relents, essentially.

How to get Kingstide in Gothic Remake

You can get the Kingstide in the lake by the New Camp in the northwest of the map (Image credit: Alkimia Interactive)

The first thing he asks you for is five Kingstide, a plant that grows at the bottom of lakes. You’ll want to head to the big lake by the New Camp, directly to the west of the hut—you can see it on the map quite easily. Speak to Homer on top of the dam and get him to train you in diving for five learning points and 30 ore.

Now, dive into the lake. There are five Kingstide in here (this is where I got mine), so just explore the bottom of the lake looking for the long stems and pinkish flowers of the plant pictured above. There are two quite close to the bottom of the dam itself, then doing a lap and keeping your eyes peeled should allow you to find the rest. Bring these back to Cohsel.

How to get Wolf Pelts and Leather Strips in Gothic Remake

You can learn the take fur skill from Aidan up the valley to the west of Cohsel’s shack (Image credit: Alkimia Interactive)

Now Cohsel asks you to acquire materials for the saddle, namely:

  • 3x Wolf Pelts
  • 2x Leather Strips

To harvest the pelts, you’ll need a hunting skill. Head west up the valley to find Aidan and pay him 250 ore and one learning point to teach you how to skin fur from animals. There are tonnes of wolves in this area, either close to Aidan, or up the track from Cohsel’s shack, past where the lumberyard is.

You’ll also need three Leather Strips, which I happened to already have. As Cohsel says, though, you can buy them from blacksmiths, so head to your camp blacksmith depending on who you joined, and purchase them. You can also just buy them from Fisk in the southern cloth-covered market area in the Old Camp.

Bring these back to Cohsel and he’ll tell you to come back in a day, so head back to the Old Camp and rest in your hut. Returning the next day, he’ll give you a whistle item to summon your Scavenger mount. Simply press F to ride it and remember that it’ll get spooked by settlements and combat, so you’ll have to dismount before going into a camp proper.
