Debuting on the MSX2 in 1990, Compile’s dungeon-crawling RPG Madou Monogatari is probably best known today for spawning the hugely popular Puyo Puyo series, marking the first appearance of the young magic wielder Arle Nadja. Despite that, though, it actually has its own unique history of remakes, ports, and follow-ups, many of which have never been released outside Japan.
In the past, we’ve seen fan translations for some of these titles (including the PC-98 version of the game), but the 1998 Sega Saturn entry from Compile and Sega Enterprises sadly wasn’t one of the games on this list. That is, until earlier this week at least, when the hacker paul_met and the translator brandnewscooby published a brand-new patch for the Sega Saturn game, taking fans by surprise.
