Developer gets a little too silly, recommends deadly psychoactive ingredient in its bad boy-themed cocktail

Fun, thematic videogame recipes are not new. Suggesting dangerous and potentially lethal ingredients, however? Well, Love and Deepspace might just be the first game to make such a bold move.

Yes, Infold’s hunky dating gacha recently posted to X with a handful of fun cocktails themed around the male suitors you can romance. Something worth noting here is that each one has a signature flower associated with them—childhood friend Caleb is the crabapple blossom, Xavier has the forget-me-not, and doctor Zayne is the jasmine. These are not the flowers that are the issue.

The problematic posies in question come from the game’s other two romantic interests, Rafayel and Sylus—whose signature flowers are the fire lily and datura respectively. They are, erm, quite toxic. And potentially even deadly. In the datura’s case, it’s also a psychoactive plant. Which makes it even more surprising that Infold deigned to include them as garnishes in these fun and funky cocktail recipes.

It took the developer a whopping 36 hours to post a follow-up tweet which read: “Safety notice: All drinks shown are fictional and for in-game purposes only. Do not attempt to recreate or consume them in reality.” Of course, by this point, the original post had already been community noted and flooded with fans asking the very important question: “Hey, what the hell?”

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a developer create thematic food and drink recipes with real ingredients that weren’t meant to be recreated, which makes this whole situation even more bizarre. You can certainly create interesting cocktails for your characters that don’t rely on a potentially deadly flower, and providing recipes people aren’t even meant to follow begs the question of why Infold would even bother in the first place?

Let’s just hope nobody ever lets Infold create one of those fandangled videogame cookbooks.
