Earlier today, Commodore announced that, following initial pre-order campaigns, the Commodore 64C Ultimate is now arriving at doorsteps and the recreation of the original Commodore 64C from 1986 is now available for purchase on the company’s website. At half the size of the original unit, the Commodore 64C Ultimate is available in a colorful Starlight revision in addition to the original Beige and Founder’s gold. The original version of the Commodore 64 Ultimate was released last year.
New to this version is expanded support for USB devices. Normal USB mouses should now function with the Commodore 64C Ultimate. Commodore is pushing the Commodore 64C Ultimate not just as a nostalgia or gaming device, but as an alternative to modern computers which tend to require cloud integration and licensing support in order to use basic software such as word processors and spreadsheets. The Commodore 64C Ultimate is also compatible with any software or peripherals that would work on the original Commodore 64C units.
In regard to gaming, Commodore also now includes an expanded USB cassette granting easy access to over 100 games. The Beige model is currently on sale for $299.99, the Starlight for $349.99, and Founder’s for $499.99. As of this writing, 864 units are available to purchase from this current factory run, which began on October 23rd, and all of these units should be delivered by January 6th of next year.
