13 Ubisoft games go free on PC if you own them on Xbox

Do you own Ubisoft games on your Xbox console but wish you could play them on your PC—but not so much that you’re willing to pay extra for it? If your answer to that oddly specific question is “yes,” and the games in question are one of a list of 13 titles that we’ll get to later, then this is your lucky day.

Announced over on the Xbox Wire, Ubisoft is adding a handful of its games to an “Xbox console-to-PC” program that grants access to PC versions of “select games” to people who own them on Xbox. The selection:

• Assassin’s Creed Mirage
• Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
• Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora
• Far Cry 6
• Immortals Fenyx Rising
• Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown
• Riders Republic
• Skull and Bones
• The Crew 2
• The Crew Motorfest
• Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction
• Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege
• Watch Dogs Legion

Beginning today, if you buy a digital version of any of those games on Xbox, you’ll get both the Xbox version and the “Xbox on PC” version. If you already own any of those games, you’ll also get the emulated version for your PC, but that won’t start happening until next week: Xbox said a “progressive rollout period” will begin on August 4.

It’s pretty straightforward, but there are a couple caveats. Currencies and consumables in the Xbox version of your game will not be included in any PC game versions, although if the game supports cross-progression then anything you’ve earned in the Xbox edition will be available on PC too. And it’s strictly a one-way street: Purchasing the PC version of any of those games will not get you the Xbox edition. I imagine this will one day cause confusion.
