New Footage From Xbox’s Cancelled Perfect Dark Reboot Surfaces Online

Gameplay footage from the cancelled reboot of Rare’s N64 icon Perfect Dark has surfaced online, offering the world a teasing glimpse at the further adventures of the Carrington Institute and its finest agent, Joanna Dark.

Perfect Dark was in development at Xbox subsidiary studio The Initiative, a “super studio” of sorts that featured a team of veteran developers with lineage from Crystal Dynamics, Rockstar Games, BioWare, and Naughty Dog. Perfect Dark, first revealed at The Game Awards in 2020, was expected to be the studio’s first release, but was unceremoniously cancelled in 2025, (along with The Initiative’s closure), as one of innumerable casualties in Xbox’s round of layoffs that continues to this day.
