The essential core of the democratic process is voting. A free, fair vote is not just essential, it is sacrosanct: Without it, everything else collapses like a house of cards. And that’s why it’s so disheartening to know that there are those among us who would prey upon our delicate democracy and twist it to…
I still remember the very first time I tried Team Fortress Classic’s VIP mode, which was also called The Hunted. I spawned into my first match and saw that instead of a gun I was holding an umbrella. I was the VIP! Hell, yes! But also: Oh, no! In TFC VIP, one player was the…
2K revealed the Mafia: The Old Country system requirements back in May, leading PC Gamer hardwaremeister James Bentley to suggest that it might be time for an upgrade if you’re coming at it with a lower-end rig. Today we got a detailed breakdown of what the game will offer in the way of eye candy…
The worst-kept secret in gaming right now is that Battlefield 6 will have a free-to-play battle royale mode. The rumors have said it, Ars Technica’s reporting has said it, and leaks have all but shown it in action. EA’s veil of secrecy is so impractical at this point that, during a Battlefield 6 multiplayer reveal…
Earlier this month, EA made the unexpected call to let players have the classic “closed” weapons ruleset in next week’s Battlefield 6 beta, seemingly contradicting its “open” weapons vision for BF6 that lets any class equip any gun. The unprecedented decision to support two opposing rulesets at once begged a question: Come launch, which format…
Live on stage from a Los Angeles warehouse on Wednesday, EA kicked off its Battlefield 6 multiplayer presentation with a crowd pleaser: Portal is back, and it’s way more powerful. The custom games toolset that debuted in Battlefield 2042 has undergone some serious upgrades that sure make it seem like a proper, Halo Forge-style mode….
We’re all trapped in launcher hell. Right now, as I write this, my taskbar trembles with apps: Steam, Battle.net, Ubisoft Connect, the Epic Game Store. In my start menu lurks another nest: GOG Galaxy, Xbox, EA, the Paradox Launcher. To add insult to injury, pretty much every one of them bar Steam will intermittently forget…
Four hours of Battlefield 6 multiplayer made one thing extremely clear: Battlefield was perfect just the way it was. I’m no Battlefield 2042 hater—in fact, I maintain it got really good—but it proved that the Battlefield formula doesn’t infinitely scale. Double the players was not automatically better, nor was its faux-class system that emphasized flashy…
It took 16 long years, but Plants vs. Zombies is finally coming back. Unveiled during today’s Nintendo Direct showcase (but yes, it’s coming to PC, let’s clear that up straight away), Plants vs. Zombies: Replanted is a full remaster of the original game, “with new levels, fresh twists, and 15 years of never-before-seen franchise history.”…
I don’t think it’s remotely overstating things to say that Destiny 2 is currently in shambles. That much was clear from our review of the recently released Edge of Fate expansion, which scored 54%. “Somehow, Bungie has taken the worst elements of multiple live-service grinds and combined them into something nonsensical that feels terrible to…
